Beware of getting caught in the credit card traps being created by our financial system.

IF you have the money to pay off the credit card when the statement arrives, using the card is not bad.

But, purchasing things with a credit card when you don’t actually have the money, is simply committing your future earnings to the credit company with the threat of a black mark on your credit rating. That is economic slavery.

Over the past few years, debt consolidation experts have assisted many people to get out of the credit card trap with debt relief programs. That says a lot about how bad the situation is. Assisting people to do this is not looked on favorably by the credit lenders; after all, they lose all that profitable interest. They create more enticing offers to hook consumers back in with offers like 0% interest for extended periods of time.

Are you really getting 0% interest? You are IF you can pay off the whole amount in advance of the expiration date of the offer. What they are hoping is that you will NOT have the ability to pay it off.

If you can’t pay, what happens then? Carefully read the fine print details on their ‘Terms and Conditions’ agreement. Many agreements have an attractive interest rate in big print; typically it is 9.99% to 12.99%. But, many rates are variable, because that means it is the ‘attractive’ rate PLUS the ‘prime rate.’ The banks charge the prime rate to the credit company to lend them the money, and that gets passed on to you. This alone can add a staggering 6 - 9% in interest on top of that seemlingly low interest rate.

Read further and you’ll see the rest of the trap. If you pay late or miss a payment, they have the right to increase the interest rate to as much as 39%. PLUS, they get to add an additional $25 - 39 in fees. If you owe a balance of $1,000, that equals $52 - 66 a month in interest and fees you are required to pay before you ever get to pay the first dollar of the price of the item you charged.

What other tricks do the credit companies have in their arsenal of weapons to make sure they keep making money from you?

First is that enticing ‘minimum payment’ they allow you to make which is mostly interest, and hooks you into a payment plan that will take you 20 years to pay for what you bought. Second, the credit companys are now inviting you to get money back from retailers or earn airline miles for every dollar you spend.

Who do you think is paying for those credits? Right! You do! The stores pay the credit companies for the cash they give you back, and the stores raise the price you pay.

The credit companys pay the airlines a tiny amount for each airline mile they ‘give’ you when you charge an item on the credit card. On January 1, 2007 in an NBC TV news interview, the president of a major airline stated it only costs the airline company $10 to fly you somewhere when you have earned 25,000 air miles to take a flight.

Who do you think really benefits if you spend enough on your credit card to earn a ‘free’ flight? It does not take a genius to see that trap dressed up to look like a big benefit to you.

Some time ago I decided to attempt a Pay Per Click comparison by using two Adword ads and trying to see which one resulted in the highest Click Through Rate (CTR). I was not surprised to find out that the ad which won was that in which I used the name of the product.

Here are four things that can be done to increase the CTR when using PPC advertising.

First, try to use a name as close to the name of the actual product as the seller permits. Frequently, you will not be allowed to use the company’s brand name when you are using PPC. Despite this, you may still be able to place a bid on the product’s name.

Employ any tool at your fingertips for ensuring that the keyword you are using is one for which people are actually searching. To offer an example, suppose that the name of the merchant is IMakeThings, and this person is selling a Thingy. Searching for PPC keywords may reveal to you that this particular keyword is not helpful because the Thingy is not a well-known product. Therefore, attempting to develop an advertising campaign for this Thingy will not be successful. PPC advertising is financially beneficially only when the product you are selling is one for which people are shopping.

To achieve the greatest CTR, structure several different Ad Groups. Using Adwords, create Campaigns, and then organize your Ad Groups. The name of the Campaign group itself is not particularly relevant. The main purpose of the Campaign is to facilitate organization. In contrast, however, the structure of the Ad Group is extremely relevant. Target one specific keyword with each ad group, and advertise with closely related phrases using that keyword. Be sure to link the keyword to a website page that most effectively features that keyword.

To offer an example, I have developed a website on Gardening at www.squarefootgardening.com. This site offers extensive information concerning methods used in Square Foot Gardening and Container Gardening, as well as useful techniques for landscaping. The Adwords Campaign name I designated for this particular site is Gardening.

Then I have three separate ad groups that focus on the individual areas. The Container Gardening ad group has just the keywords related to, you guessed it, container gardening. I point the ads in this group to a specific page on my site that deals with container gardening.

In addition, I ensure that the website is specifically targeted to focus on one or even two primary keywords on which I have made a decision to bid. Using this process, I receive a much higher CTR than in the beginning, when I organized everything into only one Ad Group.

Even though organizing separate groups is more time-intensive, I pay less because the CTR is much higher.

Experiment with various keywords and related phrases until you have achieved the greatest possible CTR. People familiar with the Adwords System are aware that advertisers who receive the highest CTRs pay the least amount for each click. Use the following basic structure to design each ad:

(1) Use the keyword in the headline of the ad if you are able. (2) Offer the searcher a bonus on the first line of the description. Make sure they know that your site offers the information they are seeking. Continuing the previous example, place a description like Learn How to Garden in Small Spaces on the first line. (3) Use capital letters to highlight the first letter of each keyword, as done in the previous tip. (4) Offer information about the site on the last line of the description. Provide visitors with features of your site. Some suggestions to offer include free eBooks, information, or trial offers.

Now that you’ve got your ads set up properly, what will the visitor see when they click on your ad and get to your site? What they should see is very precise, pre-sales information that will make them want to click again - to the Merchants site.

By holding on to our limiting beliefs, we often react in anger before we completely assess the situation. The two primary reasons for anger tend to be either that we want something to go the way we wanted and it’s not, or because our limiting beliefs are in control. Most likely, to some degree, both are at play.

Can You Determine You’re Limiting Beliefs?

Limiting beliefs can be discovered by listening to what you’re saying to yourself. In our experience, they probably sound something like these: “I am insignificant and people are selfish,” “I’m not good enough and people expect too much,” “I can’t take care of myself and people are dangerous.” These are just some of the limiting beliefs we’ve heard. Yours may sound similar or some other variation on this theme.

We have never met anyone who can honestly say that they have no limiting beliefs. This is not a bad thing and we want to make it clear that were not saying limiting beliefs are wrong and need to be fixed. You don’t even need to know why they came into existence. Beliefs are only beliefs and all you need to do is become conscious of them and then choose how to respond.

A belief is something you think about many times, which is a good thing because all you need to do to change is to think about something else. Begin by considering your beliefs. Transform those that put limits on your success and happiness, and celebrate beliefs that let you achieve the very best for your life.

Obviously there are many factors that cause us to act in the ways that we do. In fact, there are too many to list here. In light of that, it is best to simply remember to stop and think before saying something you may regret later. A few suggestions to think about:

First, it is essential to become aware of these limiting beliefs and understand how these beliefs affect the way we experience our world.
