For centuries there have been debates among our culture as to whether a psychic reading could be valid and actually give a glimpse into the past, present and future. Psychics and those who believe in the phenomenon insist that the average human only utilizes ten percent of their brain. The unused portions are from where a psychic’s “sixth sense” is drawn. Psychics also use a variety of instruments to bolster their visions into the future, such as tarot cards and numerology.

During the nineteenth century, some believed that 90% of our brains had no practical use. While neurologists today no longer believe this to be true, psychics, clairvoyants, and necromancers are of opinion that this belief is accurate. A possible origin of this theory are misinterpretations of statements made by Albert Einstein, Pierre Flourens or William James.

Regardless of whether or not there is scientific evidence of our wasted brain space, psychics and those who believe in them insist that a psychic reading can be a tool with which one can use to understand the past and plan the future. Many people will not make important decisions without consulting a trusted psychic. Many celebrities, including some American presidents and their wives have followed the advice of psychics before making major decisions regarding their careers, health, love, and finances.

There are many male psychics. The majority, however, seems to belong to women. A possible explanation for this is that women generally posses a sort of subtle instinct- “women’s intuition”- as it is often called. Women are more naturally attuned to such emotions as empathy, sympathy, and compassion- a quality which may also lend itself to sensitivities of the mind such as prognostic visions and clairvoyance.

In the past, a psychic reading was only available in a psychic’s place of business or over the phone. In the age of the internet, psychics have set up business in cyber space and are accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Some have web sites offering services by phone or email. Others have utilized online chat rooms for customers who prefer the anonymity of the web, but want help immediately. Now savvy computer and internet users can log on for a psychic chat online.

Humans and their predecessors have always looked beyond the five senses to attempt to make sense of the unknown. Ultimately such studies led to astrology, belief that lives are guided by alignment of the planets, and other superstitions. Extrasensory perception has been a particular interest, and is likely to remain so until the end of the species.

Many rely on psychic readings for advice and insight, including powerful politicians. Psychics tend to be women more often than men; perhaps because they tend to approach life from an intuitive frame of reference, they are more prone to clairvoyance and precognition. However, the validity of such practices is and has been hotly debated for some time. The notion carried by supporters that we our minds have unused potential is likely misunderstanding of scientific findings. Although in the past one had to personally visit a psychic, one can engaged in psychic chat online or via telephone.
